Tax assessor might show the prior owners for a few years.

Your county will have this on a public record. The last ten or 15 years will probably be online- if you want to go further back you probably have to physically visit the courthouse.

You might be better off attempting to find your long lost friend on facebook or other social media social networks. All you normally would be required is to type in the name of the person.

I don;t really know how] you would find someone without knowing their last name.

You might consider going to the neighborhood and see if anyone live there you knew before. Some neighbors might be of help even if you don't know them. You might inquire if they have been there for a long period of time and if they remember the family that resided in the house of your friend.

You might also indicate the time frame in which your friend resided in your old neighborhood.

A little leg work and investigation on your part might give you immediate results as oppose to pouring over records in a court house and other archives.

You might be successful by going to the local high school, looking at old high school year books in which the friend might have attended. normally the year books would cover a 3-4 year period of time.

I hope this has been of some benefit to you, good luck.

If you want a full ownership history, you will likely have to research that in person at your county's register of deeds. Tax assessors/web GIS will usually only offer current owner information, but what you are seeking is a matter of public record and therefore accessible. Land property information varies by county. Your best starting place is to call your assessor/treasurer--they will point you in the right direction if they don't have the information at hand.

the county assesor's office is a great start or you can ask a realtor or title company too.
