How do you reply to a tweet on twitter?

I am following people but they are not all following me when they send out a tweet can I reply if they are not following me? I know there is a reply on the side of the tweet but I have been reading some of these tweets and some people are saying cut and paste and rt? anyone have a clue?

Lolz I thought it was easy. Well if you're going to type, and you get a message from 'Ars' saying 'just crashed my car' - then you can reply by typing '@Ars - did you die?' or - if you think he said something funny, you type 'RT @Ars just crashed my car'

RT is when you just send the message on again, and '@' means 'at' it means you send the message AT someone - it goes to their replies.

Just be careful not to talk too much on Twitter - it's the main reason I cut people off my list, too much spam. A little spam is okay, but sometimes people really pss me off treating it more like a private messenger.

Yes you can reply, but your answer will only show up in the @ area of their twitter account so they may not see it until they check that area, if ever.

RT means retweet. It is a way of following the TOS of twitter but reposting someone elses message. It can be seen as a way of saying that you liked their post and want YOUR followers to see it too.

It depends if its on your phone or on web. The phone has only a few options from the menu, but if you type @ username in the beginning of any tweet, then it is a reply. Just like if you type DM username it will direct message and not be visible to your followers. You should check out http://tweetcustom.com that has a long list of Twitter sites that have tools to help out. Some use auto reply program that allows u to automatically send a message when someone follows u, like Thanks for following, its pretty cool. They also have a celebrity list of all celeb accounts.
