Is a Communications degree the right choice if you would like to get into advertising and PR?

I really would like to get into either Advertising or Public Relations( not sure which yet). It seems like communications is one of the best choices. It makes me nervous though that I hear some negative thing's about a Communications degrees. Although yahoo has had numerous articles talking in favor of Communication majors as social media and internet are developing. You think this is a good major for what I would like career wise? thanks.

Communications is a very important part of Public relations. I would;d strongly suggest it. It will really help you to move ahead in PR field if your communication skills are excellent and have a degree in the same field as well.
