Have fake claims of Aspergers caused society to believe that there is no such thing as Asperger's Syndrome?
Aspergers is a fake disease, it's used by people as an excuse to be lazy.

Shy Highschooler = AS
Impolite Scientist = AS
Hot-Headed Athlete = AS

Because so many claim AS, it credibility is shrinking.

Now those who really do have AS are treated as lazy paranoid hypochondriacs who want people to feel sorry for them.

Many have AS but undiagnosed, they do not want to be associated with AS and receive the disdaine as well.

AS can cause extreme sensitivity to personal dislike

Many have a tough time preparing to be diagnosed with AS, they fear the bad press AS has gotten. Even if it means no treatment they will avoid the Stigma AS now has.

Here are some examples of an average person with "AS"

Ken, a 23 year old mechanic living in New York. He is known for his violent temper and being easy to set off. He learns about Aspergers and uses it as a "Get out Of Jail" free card whenever his rage takes over and he assaults someone, by simply claiming "I have Assburger disease, I can't stop myself"

Tina a 17 year old junior in High School in Newport News. She is overweight, can't drive, and shy around boys she likes. For the past year her mother had been working with Tina to lose weight, get a liscense and overcome her shyness. Together they made a small, but significant progress in all areas. Tina was tired of all the work, when she heard about Asperger's Syndrome from a friend at school, she looked it up, diagnosed herself, and for some unknown reason forgets the progress she had made with her mom into feeling better about herself, because when asked why she would run with her mother that morning she simply replied "That won't work for me, I have AS, It's just who I am"

Rachel - 31 year old journalist from Houston. While looking for sick people with a obscure disease she could bring into the spotlight and raise her career status, Rachel stumbled across AS, a full YEAR, before the disorder became so well known. After learning the symptoms, Rachel smiled and thought up a plan. 3 weeks later, at the end of the 11:00 news Rachel stopped the others from saying goodbye to the audience and with many a tear and several seconds of hidden face/shacking shoulders Rachel admitted that she had the brain disorder known as Asperger's Syndrome, she made a watery eyed live apology to all those she may have unknowingly wronged in the past. As she stopped speaking the entire news floor burst into applause, people that had hated her sudden;y pitied her and tried again to work together with Rachel, this time knowing her bitchy attitude is brain disorder she cannot help.

Davis, 19 year old who works at the public Library, in San Diego. He has seen the types of books people check out, self-help and the many books written by celebrities about them knowing the "true way" to the good life. Then people kept asking about a disease known as Aspergers, not knowing what they wanted and trying to fight the panic this missing knowledge created, Davis sent the group to the medical section.

That night Davis looked up Asperger's on his computer, he started noticing that many of AS symptos were VERY familiar to him. After getting all the technical facts down, Davis searched for an Aspergers forum to explore options to finally being able to help himself and start living a life of his own, nothing big or fancy, just a life as much different of his current life of loneliness and fear as possible. However, the first three people he talks to on the forum are Ken, the mechanic, Tina, the high school outcast, and Rachel the journalist. He listens to their stories and is confused, he then looks back at website that describes Aspergers Syndrome. He realized that none of them really have it, that they are claiming to have AS so they can avoid consequences for what they do socially. Then he starts finding the Asperger jokes, not the one's making fun of the name, he thinks its a hilarious name to, but the jokes about how there is no such thing as Aspergers, how it's just a bunch rude, lazy people who want to skate through life.

Panic flooded Davis's mind, he didn't want people to think that of him!! He grabbed his phone called his psychiatrist's office and cancelled the appointment he had set up earlier. He wanted help badly, but he couldn't handle being permanently labeled as something so looked down upon, even if it would improve his life, ironically, the thing stopping Derek from getting help with his AS, is his AS.

This link will be imprinted on your mind forever. You've been warned.

I do not believe that AS is fake - but like Attention Deficit Disorder in children, I believe that it has been overly-diagnosed in some people who are simply poorly behaved.

Sounds like every tom dick or harry's kids with ADD or ADHD---------->> many parents who are stupid and ineficient parents like to find an "illness" for their children bc its easier to blame it on some mysterious illment rather then come clean and say we were shitty parents so we have produced BRATTY, SHITTY, RECKLESS, F'd up little monster children who are growing up to become young criminals.
Im not saying there is no Aspergers just that there is probably too many diagnosed wrongly bc its easy to shift the blame !

It's real. There is more then the social things. This is why there needs to be awareness. This is a syndrome. There is more than one symptom. For some reason the media took one part of it and ran with it. There are the sensory processing issues, the anxiety issues, the change issues, motor skills issues, the stimming/ tic issues. Yeah the social stuff is the most talked about but there are more symptoms.

"Shy Highschooler = AS" Another misconception, Aspies are not "shy" they lack the ability to read and perform unspoken rules in conversations and therefore don't know when it is their turn to talk. So to the uneducated mind, they appear to be shy. But if you know an aspie you know they are not shy.

"Impolite Scientist = AS"

Impolite: again unspoken rules. They are not rude on purpose. They are honest to a fault. They can conceive lying. That goes for white lying. They think it is more honorable to be honest then to lie, even if the lie would be to protect someones feelings example: "does the dress make me look fat".

Scientist: well the average IQ of someone with aspergers ranges in the above average to genius score on IQ exams.

"Hot-Headed Athlete = AS" I have never heard that but if his special interest is in sports it is possible I guess.

yes there are "fakers" but I am sure most of the fakers are easily found out considering they usually only fake the social aspects.

@Adithya: Adam Lanza did not have aspergers. His family already said he did not have it. It was a stupid rumor. In fact his aspergers symptoms would have prevented him from doing this if he had aspergers. It was concluded that he probably had a "personality disorder" not a "pervasive development disorder"
