I see so many people wired to their cell phones or other devices and ignoring the people they are with, including their children. Are we creating a different kind of human that thrives on electronic companionship at the cost of real interactions with real people. What will we become. What do you think?

It's not a good thing. I see so many people just like the ones you described...it's terrible. Like my cousins. At dinner (we had one with them) they were on Facebook and imgur the entire meal. Thy did not say one word; they only started laughing at some sum post a friend made, without telling anyone why the hack they're laughing.

All too soon te majority of people will be lazy, fat, social media addicted slobs. We won't have any manners or real personalities. Just however we act online, which is always different than how we'd act in real life.

Just a few of my thoughts. I hope you find them interesting!

Easy, immediate access to communication & information is hard to resist. It does get carried to obnoxious extremes, but maybe people are just adjusting to the ever-expanding reach of portable media.

Some people will always be rude & obsessed, even addicted, and never will give a rip about how it impacts others.

Electronic interaction has pros, as well as cons, though.

People complained about families not talking but spending hours sitting around the radio, then the television, then video games - it's all a matter of individuals and whatever level of common sense & self-control, and priorities they choose.

Just don't expect me to stand by & wait while you text or talk during a conversation with me. Bye bye - come back when you can give our interaction your undivided attention. And DON'T call me when you're using a g'dam toilet, okay? Big Grin

Yeah it's pretty ridiculous. The funny thing about my case is that my family utterly refuses to eat dinner without watching Ellen simultaneously. It's that old TV ruins family time thing, but it still applies. Even worse too since Ellen is really just a glorified infomercial. So, there I am on my computer, reading TV Tropes, and chowing down while everyone else laughs at some dumb ass talking about the latest [insert discrete advertisement of the week here] as if it's remotely meaningful.

But anyway... Why does everyone care so much about the stupid crap other people are doing? I look over at my relatives and they're utterly obsessed with keeping up to date on twitter events. Seriously? Some guy walks into a grocery store and complains about asparagus being next to the apples and that is important to you?

My theory is that I'm the protagonist of a movie and all the people around me are just background characters meant to look like they're actually doing something.
