Is it appropriate to put Social Networking under Computer skills on a resume?
I'm a packaging major and have under my computer skills microsoft word, excel, powerpoint, MATLAB, AutoCAD, R-Project and FrontPage.
Is it professional to put this on a resume? I know for some people it may not be, but I feel like this day and age that might be a nice thing to add? Thanks! Ads |

I would list all skills. Even if they are not relevant to the job, they demonstrate that you are always learning.

I would leave that off. It will be assumed. If you make it sound like it is a big part of your life it may give a wrong impression that you will waste work time with it. I would also take a close look at a public postings you have on social media to be sure they are super clean, nothing negative or unprofessional.
Best wishes! |

The only time you should include social networking on your resume is if this would be relevant to the job you are applying for. For instance, marketing professionals use social networking to promote a product or service. Otherwise, don't bother.
As a side note, you can leave off Microsoft Word and Excel - these are each a "given", since most folks use these programs. |

The first time we saw a resume at my office where someone had listed social networking as a skill, we laughed our asses off. In other words...DON'T DO IT!!
