In the UK do your school have the right to look down your twitter?
Me and 2 of my friends joked around in the snow in our bikinis and posted a picture on twitter, our parents thought it was a funny joke. But somehow the school caught wind of it and pulled us up, and said they'd been through our twitter accounts. Do the school have the right to do this? Are there any privacy rights of them looking throught our social networks? What websites would be good to find out?

You put the photo on THE INTERNET on a SOCIAL NETWORK SITE. Other people are on that forum, such as teachers, other students, other student's parents and you're surprised people saw the photos? Really?

Of course they can. Twitter is a publicly available social network.

If you publish any data be it onto Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr whatever you automatically lose control and it goes to what is called Public domain meaning ANYONE can access is, so yes they can. try and make them private through settings etc

If you post something on a social networking site for everyone to see then everyone can see it. Why would there be rights or laws to stop this?

The point of a social networking sight is usually to socialize and meet new people, If you want privacy then don't join a social networking site.
The school would not pull you up unless they thought that something was wrong with the pictures. Maybe someone told the school and they had to take action. You realize that some companies will look at your social networking history before hiring you. So you should be careful about what you post. Nothing is ever really deleted. |

People do not think what they post on a PUBLIC way will be an issue, yet the world can look in.
Live and learn. |

They have no way and no access of actually signing into your own Twitter and seeing EVERYTHING. They can only see what any other twitter account or viewer would see on your account. The school has every right to look you up. These social networking sites specically state privacy concerns and what they're not responsible for. You post a picture online, it's there forever. Literally, forever.
