Limited connectivity but no Internet connection?

Okay so I've been on my laptop with windows 8 for hours today. I decided to watch a movie from media share to wind down for the night. Everything was working fine. Midway through the movie I wanted to check my social networking sites, so I minimized the tab and went to refresh the pages. But there was no Internet connection. So I reset the modem and it still didnt work. I realized now that it said it was connected to the laptop but had limited connectivity and no Internet connection. I tried multiple solutions I found online and none of them worked. I then decided to go on the family desktop to see if that would work, and it didnt connect either. But my iPhone 3G (no service, use as iPod) can connect to the Internet, and that's how I'm writing this. Idk how the other laptops are reacting because everyone else is asleep. Does anyone have any solution? I renewed the IP address, I reset 3 other things in the command prompt, I've tried a clean start, among other things. Please this needs to be fixed!!!
