What's the BEST laptop brand?
I need to buy a new laptop, and I'm just wondering what's the best brand to buy for what I need it for.
Here's what I am looking for.
I want one that is great for multimedia purposes.
aka i want it to download movies and music quickly has well as play them back at a decent quality.
I want to be able to play games like sims without it being very slow.
and i want good internet speed because i spent alot of time on social media websites.

Serious answers only please, and I need reasoning behind your choices, as well as possible proofs.
after all this is my money we're spending.
I want one with a more durable shell, my acer is flimsy... D:

We have 3 laptops in the family and Samsung being the brand. Mine is Samsung Chronos and I run the Adobe Creative Suite just fine. Coincidentally, I also play The Sims 3 with 2 expansion packs quite smoothly. The internet speed depends on your service provider.

Laptop brands do NOT matter, when all is said and done.
What does matter is the specifications of the laptop you're getting. CPU speed, hard drive space, RAM, graphics card, etc.
All major companies that make laptops (HP, ASUS, Acer, Samsung, Toshiba, etc.) use similar parts, sometimes from the same company.
Since laptops tend to price similarly, your kind of laptop would probably be in the $500-$600 range.

An Apple Macbook.

I know a lot of people hate them, but if you want the best money can buy, thats what you get.

Don't believe me. Believe all the insanely smart scientists at the NASA space program here in the States.

NASA scientists use macbooks. Smile

Here's some proof: ( http://cdn.mactrast.com/wp-content/uploa...ok-Pro.jpg ) A quick google search will show you that's not a fake image.

When the smartest people at NASA use a mac to land a 2.7 BILLION dollar rover on Mars... I think it's fair to say that the mac is the best laptop out there.

I'm a researcher in Biosensors and Bioelectronics, and we use Macs in our lab, too. A few reasons:

1. Macs are the industry standard when it comes to multimedia like video and audio production. Pixar uses macs, too.

2. Macs are fast. And You *can* game on them. There are youtube videos of macs running crysis just fine.

3. Rock solid reliability. We know they won't crash mid experiment, or during our coding process, or during a space mission.

4. Unix Foundation - lets us easily write and edit code.

5. Powerful. Macs are powerful. Years ago, they used to be underpowered, but nowdays, They are just as powerful as other machines out there.

6. Quality. Sure, they're expensive. You'll pay more for the same specs on a mac, sure. that's 100% correct. But if you get an equivalent PC you'll pay about $300 less. However, the mac will have an aluminum body. This acts like a heat sink and keeps the insides from running too hot. Smile Also, you get things like a backlit keyboard, a magnetic power cord (so if someone trips on it, your laptop doesn't kiss the floor)

7. Battery Life. Oh, did I mention that you get 7 hours of battery on a mac? It's awesome.

8. Everything works seamlessly - All macs work together perfectly with zero hassle. The last thing you want is a networking error in the middle of an experiment or a space mission.

Finally,

Macs are better. You pay more, but you get what you pay for. Many scientists, engineers, and other professionals use macs over PC's.

People hate the mac because typically they can't afford them - so they spread rumors about them all the time, and spread misinformation. But everyone who's smart knows that they are great machines and will use them.

The fact is, these are the people who make millions. Who land rovers on mars. Who build multimillion dollar corporations like facebook. Who work with biosensors at the very cutting edge of technology. We all use Macs.

So the next time you go to buy a computer, consider a mac. Smile Ignore the rumors everyone spreads about them. Instead, read some reviews from people who bought macs: …

Oh, and yes, macs can right click. Smile Yes, they can play modern games like Crysis. Yes, they can do 3D modeling like AutoCAD. Yes, you can even run Windows 7 Or Linux on the mac.

Big Grin Get a Mac. Smile Just check out these reviews on Amazon.

My favorite laptop brands are Asus, HP and Toshiba. If you want to play games like the Sims, that is not a very graphic intensive game so you don't need a very powerful computer to run it. Here is what I think

Asus- Great gaming laptops, but they are pricey. If you get midrange, they are about average in pricing and still fast
HP- All around good computer. HP is not my choice for a gaming laptop, but is good for minor games and multimedia
Toshiba- Good computer, fast and reliable. I've had mine for nearly 2 years now and it still plays games well and is fast and also gets good battery life. Mine was $700 when I got it new

Stay away from Macs though. They may have decent hardware, but you can get a PC that is as powerful for a fraction of the cost

If you want something that doesn't cost you an arm and a leg (*cough "good" macs) get a HP. By default, they have to 2 to 3 year factory warranty. You can get a real decent laptop that will last you years for under $1000.

Just an FYI to the mac guy, explain to me why NASA would use macs if they are outdated? They don't even support USB 3.0 yet! Also, why buy a mac for a outrageous price and have to pay a fee for EVERY single update the mac iOS has? You can get a computer for a fraction of the cost, and run faster, better, and is far more updated than a mac. Btw, a lot of popular programs are supported by the mac. And.. Macs DO crash.

buy an apple laptop they are more costly but worth it so far i had two laptops in five years both costing around 600 - 700 dollars the hp i brought in 2010 just feel apart after two years the keyboard, the ground in the power cord started breaking with normal use. and to top it off the fan now blows hot air like a blow dryer when i just using the laptop on a table with plenty of room to breath. btw for all you people who are going to comment i do take care of my laptop. so in my opinion if you want a laptop that will last you awhile buy a macbook, thats is what im doing now. btw macbooks made in the year 2012 do have usb 3.0 ports
