is China's news reports confusing and angering its citizens?
http://news.yahoo.com/report-says-equipm...16627.html

few days ago, China reported the train crash was because of lightning, "edited" reports now say it was design flaws and poorly trained staffs caused the crash. What do people in China think about their own unreliable news reports that keep changing stories?

Major news stories evolve as more information becomes available. A lightning strike knocked out power to the leading train, then there was a glitch in the track warning system, and finally their were problems at the nearest monitoring station. None of these events would have caused the crash alone, but their cascading effect brought about the tragedy.

Chinese people are smart enough to know that evidence needs to be gathered and analyzed before conclusions can be drawn. Chinese authorities never said that a lightning strike was the sole cause of the accident. The lightning was one of the contributing factors and more facts may yet be discovered. The investigation is still in its earliest phases.

Yes. It is all very confusing.

First the media (and 50-centers) spent a month boasting about how China's technology had created the fastest and largest high-speed rail system in the world, a marvel of achievement.

Immediately after the crash, the media stated that lightning hit the first train, causing it to stall, but at the same time the government fired three railways managers. (gee.. I know some Chinese think they are gods, but really, "Railways Managers strike train with lightning" seems a bit too far-fetched.)

Then on Monday, they blamed "foreign technology" for the failure in order to damage Bombardier's reputation and drive down the price of its stock.

They next claimed that lightning also struck the signaling system, causing it to fail; placing blame on General Electric and driving down the price of its stock.

Now, they are placing the blame on a design flaw from a Chinese design firm, and on Chinese railways staff/operators. Meanwhile, officials are getting ready to reap substantial investment profits from "buying low and selling high" as Bombardier is exonerated and the stock price rebounds.

It's possible that, if they hadn't decided to bury all the evidence so quickly, then they might be doing an even better job of finding others at whom they could toss some blame, and make more money from a system that is proving to be successful at both killing people and making money for the PRC government officials.

Snippets from another article:

"That theme for the coverage was mandated in a directive issued Sunday by the central propaganda department -- as shown in a widely circulated photo of a Chinese journalist's cell phone screen. In the same order, domestic media was barred from questioning official statements or investigating the causes of the crash."

"While CCTV shunned him, Yang became an overnight hero in the eyes of Chinese netizens who were riled by the government response to the accident, especially the perceived ineptitude and arrogance of the railway ministry. Less than 24 hours after he posted his first message on Weibo, China's equivalent of Twitter, Yang has gained more than 110,000 followers.

{snip}

"The closer you get to the centrally controlled media, the more they toe the Communist Party line," explained Jeremy Goldkorn, a long-time Chinese media observer whose Danwei website monitors the industry. "For this accident, Weibo posts have been so far ahead of official responses."

"Chinese netizens have been fuming over the government decision to crush and bury one of the six derailed train cars when the investigation had barely started, alleging an attempted cover-up or worse. In an apparent nod to the growing online opposition, crews excavated the buried car Tuesday night and transported it to a depot for re-examination.

"For Weibo users, however, any sense of vindication may prove short-lived. Analysts say Internet censors have already begun deleting more posts as netizens became critical of not just the scandal-plagued railway ministry but also of the flaws of the political system.

"They are trying to shove the genie back in the bottle," media observer Goldkorn said. "Weibo is such an effective amplifier of people's dissatisfaction that it is worrying the government a lot."

"Now Yang has turned uncharacteristically quiet. Pleading for his supporters' understanding, he alluded in his most recent Weibo posts that he was under tremendous pressure to keep a low profile for the well-being of his family -- including his father-in-law, who survived the train crash.

"One goal, though, seems unshakable for both Yang and Xiang's guardians. Asked separately by local media about their demands to the government, their answers sounded the same: "We don't want money -- we want the truth."

The outcry and anger in the train crash accidents is not quite because of CCP's misleading false reports. Rather some Mainlanders are no longer silent obedient sheep as before, many have traveled to abroad like to Hong Kong seeing first hand how citizens could openly criticize the government, they're beginning to learn of their basic rights. Chinese netizens is now the largest in the world, they could easily get genuine news from internet and exchange views with one another instead of relying on Government's BS.

Mainlanders are not happy with the way their government do things for a very long time and simply make use of the opportunity to burst out their frustrations. Demonstrations and "riots" are already a popular pass-time on a regular basis across the Mainland.

The stupid inhumane Shanghai officials just eager to clear up the scene and to hide evidence of the crash ignoring passengers still alive inside the train by ordering a hasty burial, a typical silly corrupt dictator's mentality, never put human life a priority.

When China and its advocates like Abe Cool, Lo Little One The Bird and the whole lot bluffing Shanghai soon becoming a world class city, how laughable, lets all look at Shanghai's government and management again in another 30-40 years before deciding when Shanghai will be world class. Without Freedom of Expressions, no Mainland city could become world class, as corruptions and stupid inhumane government mentality will not be changed .
