Twitter is a social network like Facebook or MySpace. It's not an actual email service. Yahoo! or any email service can only send emails to contacts from email services. Social networks have its own individual message talk. MySpace can only message other MySpace users while Facebook can only message other Facebook users. Email services however, can message any "email" service or support contact.

well what happened to me once was all my tumblr posts went onto twitter and i found that my accounts had been linked together. go to yahoo and make sure that your twitter isn't linked to yahoo or else it'll send updates to twitter.
