Chances are, your birth was listed in the public records section of the newspaper. Also, if you were born in 1971 but not adopted until 1973, it sounds as if your birth mother's parental rights were terminated. Typically, this also involves a number of legal notices in the newspaper. Also, the county may have these records so do check with them as to how they record this type of information.

You might have to generate a list of male births on 06/01/71; don't forget to include hospital, birth parent names, baby names, and any other piece of information including both mother and father's names if available. If possible, locate any public records you can find with respect to the termination of parental rights in Los Angeles County with an eye on the names and ages of the people involved. Then see if you can get some sort of cross correlation. Realize also that often when one child is removed or the rights are terminated for one, if there are others then they too are typically placed into the system; this would be older as well as younger children/sibblings

In this day and age of Goggle and Facebook, you might try seeking out the children born on your date and the listed parents of those same children. When you find a parent that still has a link to their son born on 06/01/1971 then you will be able to rule them out. If you find criminal, civil, or parental rights issues listed for names from your birth record list, then these become higher on the possibility list.

Meanwhile, start putting together each and every piece of information, family lore, and innuendo related to your early life. Were you born in the City of Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, or in the greater vicinity; how do you know? How long were you in the care of your birth mother/parents? What precipitated your adoption? Were you in foster care or an orphanage? What little comments have been made about how you adjusted into your adoptive family; in other words, what conditions and environment were you coming from which leads one to consider what part of the LA area you came from. How long and what process did your adoptive parents go through? This may lead to an office or agency which in turn may lead to a general population/sub-culture or geographical area that a particular agency, office, or individual worked with. Go back to family stories and your memories about what was familiar to you and what was not during your toddler years. These types of things may provide hints as to whether you were familiar with the beach versus the hills, the inner-city versus a picket fenced yard, etc..; in turn they may provide clues as to where you lived or didn't live during the first two years. You might also have picked up some clues to your origins based upon the fears your adoptive parents had/have for you in terms of past injuries, medical conditions, and or the potential for addiction or behavioral/emotional problems, tendencies, or characteristics. If your parents were church attending folks, you might find some answers from those who were also attending at the time you were adopted.

As you get more information from public records etc... then, you can search Facebook and other social media sites. Don't forget to look for familiarities in the pictures you find as you may come across folks you are related to other than your birth parents before you discover your birth parents themselves. Chances are, you are going to need to approach a lot of folks who are not related before you find someone who is.....Is it possible that you are related to your parents? During the time you speak of, it was not uncommon for sealed adoptions within biological families.
