Why can I put more RAM in my pc then what the MAX amount of ram is?
i have a Dell Inspiron 531s its in a new case i bought for it and upgraded the graphics to a geforce 9800gt....my question is, the inspiron 531s is only suppose to support 4gb of ram but i have already put 5 1/2 gb in it and it registers and works. i was wonder just how much ram can i put in it and have it work?

Dell Inspiron 531s is really old I suggest you just to get a new desktop. But I think the motherboard can hold 16GB to 128GB but again the desktop is old.
