This copy of windows is not Genine?
I don't know what happened...But today when i opened my lap, it showed the following error on the right-bottom corner of my desktop:
"Windows 7
Build 7601
This copy of windows is not Genuine"

Mine is a Dell Studio 15 laptop which came with preloaded version of Windows 7 Home Premium(64-bit). I Purchased it directly from dell showroom in Chennai, India, through one of my relatives 2 years ago. It didn't have any problem when i shut it down yesterday... It's 100% Genuine version. Does Microsoft deactivate windows after some years??? I'm sure I've not installed it on any other computer or given the product ID to anyone.
Please help me sort this problem out!

another tip : keep your automatic update off so Microsoft won't detect piracy

Dell laptops come with service tag printed on sticker at bottom of laptop.

Contact the Dell India helpline at 1-800-425-4026 (toll free) or 080-2506-8026 during business hours. Give them your service tag and purchase proofs to investigate the issue.

Hi Sanju,
My name is Krishna and I work for the Social Media and Community Team at Dell. Try the below steps and let me know if it helps.

1) Click Start button.
2) Type: CMD.exe into the 'Search programs and files' field
3) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select Run as Administrator
4) Type: net stop sppsvc (It may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
Note: the Software Protection service may not be running, this is ok.
5) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
6) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
7) Type: cd %windir%\system32
8) Type: net start sppsvc
9) Type: slui.exe
10) After a couple of seconds Windows Activation dialog will appear. You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key or Activation may occur automatically.

Regards,
