Is 1gb of data on iPhone 5 good enough for my type of usage?
I Plan on buying an iphone 5, and getting the unlimited talk/text plan with 1 gig of data included. For the better part of the day, I am at home hooked onto my wifi network, and typically connect to any free wifi I can given there aren't too many people on it.
Assuming i use twitter and facebook and stream music regularly at my university for about 6 hours for 5 days a week, then come home and stay on my wifi for the rest of the day, would 1 gig of data be enough? Best answer rewarded for quicker but complete replies. Thanks! Ads |

Last month i used 1.6gb. I connect to wifi when im at home. During the day my iphone is always on so always using internet to update mail/news/weather ect.
Music streaming does usually use ALLOT of data Id say be safe and opp for 2gb or more. If you go over your 1gb its a hefty price.. BUT If you go with t-mobile(EE) they dont ever charge if you go over, they just stop your internet usage until the next month Ads |

If you're streaming music or video, it's not a good idea to do it from your phone carrier's bandwidth. Depending on the quality (kbps of the song), a single song can range from a megabyte to 4 megabytes. I've used TuneIn radio for a while, and I can tell it's eating up my quota much much faster than Facebook/Twitter usage.
If you do the calculation, you will notice you'll fill your limit easily with constant streaming. There are utilities/programs for your phone to tell you how much data you've used. ( For example, you can see how many MBs you've streamed from TuneIn's settings). My personal advice would be to avoid streaming music/video when not connected to a wi-fi network as it will fill your quota pretty fast. If you still want to go for it, I would recommend getting a plan with higher data limit. Hope I could help! |
