What are you selling, which sites do you go on that let you promote yourself.

Have you sold on Ebay, when you do put your webadress into any promotional stuff sent out with your order, and do you have an Eaby shop.

The more comptetition in your field of work the more ways you have to find to promote yourself, do you have any ads on You Tube do you have a Facebook page, how busy is your Twitter account?

The more high quality links that you have the higher your site will be ranked.
Build lots and lots of backlinks.
The more links you have, the more folks will see your site.
You can start out with high page rank backlinks that you can do yourself.
You could try buying a few from fiverr.com,but if you do it this way you will know that it is done correctly.
Some of these links are dead, but use what you can.
The higher the page rank that your back links are the higher your site will be ranked.Bookmarks are very good,no matter what field you are in.
These are some freebies that helped me out.Good luck.
Here are a few quickies

OLM (Online Marketing) is a book length topic. Actually, a whole library could be devoted to it. Also, OLM takes plenty of expertise and experience. And it’s constantly evolving.

There are basically 2 ways to market your website/blog online. Paid and free (with some smaller costs).

Paid:
Paid Online Marketing means buying ads on other people’s websites and/or paying a marketing service to do your Online Marketing, and/or Pay-Per-Click (PPC) advertising – usually on Google AdWords.

Paid advertising gets you fast results, with nearly instant website traffic, depending on how much time, money and effort you can spend. If you have the money, nothing is faster (and possibly more effective, if done well) than Google AdWords PPC (Pay-Per-Click).

Do not do PPC advertising without studying the topic thoroughly first – the ignorant loose a lot of money that way. It's not at all easy to get the best results with AdWords:
* In my experience, Google AdWords is going to cost you at least $20 - $30 per day and probably more, at least until you get it fine-tuned.
* And you have to work on it for something like an hour or more per day, after your first several hour effort - for the first weeks.
* Also, PPC requires considerable expertise.
* You can lose a lot of money too. That's because Google gets paid for every click, while you only get paid for every click that turns into a sale. And some clicks on popular keywords are very expensive. If your site isn't good at converting visitors into customers, you'll only help Google get richer and have nothing to show for it. So you have to get your sales/landing page working well first.

Free:
Free Online Marketing is also called “natural” or “organic” Online Marketing. One free and fast way to get lots of traffic (temporarily) is to do something that "goes viral". That is, publish some content that people find so interesting or entertaining that they pass it on to their friends. Even a very good chart or diagram can go viral.

Free methods are many. Each requires that you specifically study the best methods before you use it. For example:
Participating in valuable ways in forums about your area of expertise. You set a link in your profile for your signature.

Setting up marketing pages on social network sites

Building a presence on “web 2.0” sites like Squidoo

Paying for inclusion in website/blog directories

Building a mailing list of potential long-term customers by including a good signup form on your website/blog, with attractive incentives

Local or regional marketing, if you have a physical retail or service location.

..and more..

Actually, a smart marketer doesn't want max "traffic", nor a "fast" temporary traffic boost. Smart business people want to develop maximum numbers of "long-term business relationships", not "sales”, and certainly not just "traffic". Every experienced business person knows that returning customers are more valuable than one-time sales. Returning customers cost you a lot less, market you for free via "word-of-mouth" when you satisfy them and provide for your future.

Hope this helps...

Basically what everyone needs to do to beef up their online business is drive traffic to their website. Some methods I can think off....

1. Join forums (every time you post, your resource box is marketing your site)
2. write articles (again your resource box will promote your site)
3. post ads on a viral tool (like the below)
4. write emails to your list (for this 1, you'll need to built a list first which is just as important)
