Are regulations causing more unemployment?
There’s a trolley business based out of Annapolis, Maryland called Discover Annapolis Tours. The business used to accommodate newly weds as part of their service until recently when it became clear that if a business turned down a same-sex couple, that business could be sued and would lose based on discrimination charges.

The owner of Discover Annapolis Tours Matt Grubbs is a Christian and is opposed to Maryland’s new same-sex marriage law upheld last month by voters that allows homosexuals to “wed.” He had the option to refuse to serve these homosexual newly weds but instead decided to scrap the whole wedding component to his trolley business. Now, his business will be out $50,000 a year.

And his employees will be out of jobs.
The stores where they shop will have less business.
Trickle up poverty.

8/31/10 in Osawatomie, Kansas: progressive T. Roosevelt attacked the Constitution by advocating for national health care, social security and the championing of unions (the militants of all welfare state movements): “This, I know, implies a policy of a far more active governmental interference with social and economic conditions in this country than we have yet had, but I think we have got to face the fact that such an increase in governmental control is now necessary.”

Dem. pres. Wilson (1913-21): “You are not here merely to make a living. You are here to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, and with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world. You impoverish yourself if you forget this errand.” He may have been the first progressive to realize the potential of multiculturalism in deconstructing America, saying: “No nation is fit to sit in judgment upon any other nation.” Obama put it this way: "I believe in American exceptionalism, just as I suspect that the Brits believe in British exceptionalism and the Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalism." (12/22/10 http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/201...ptional/).

FDR’s “Second Bill of Rights” included the “right”: to “earn enough to provide adequate food and clothing and recreation”; of every family to a “decent home”; “to be free from economic fears of old age, sickness, accident, and unemployment.” (Speech to Congress on 1/11/44)

LBJ’s Great Society spent trillions on those “rights.”

In fact, America’s semi-capitalist system provided those “rights” in such abundance that tens of millions of Europeans fled their welfare state nations to come here. But none of that matters to democrats. They’ve always fought for a welfare state America -- they won:

-2/4/10 Gallup poll: 61% of liberals have a positive view of socialism.

-6/2/11 Gallup poll: 71% of democrats favor re-distributing wealth.

-9/6-9/2012 http://www.gallup.com/poll/157481/majori…: Those who want more government control over us: Republicans 15%; Independents, 29%; Democrats 67%.

-Democrats got their national health care, the foundation of all welfare and socialist states.

How did they win?

Democrats dominate the major media:

How Americans saw the mainstream media (TV and print) election coverage in 2008:
-Rasmussen poll: 69% for Obama, 6% for McCain
-Pew Research poll: 67% for Obama, 11% for McCain
-Sacred Heart University poll: 68% for Obama, 9% for McCain
-Fox News/Opinion Dynamics poll: 67% for Obama, 11% for McCain

U. of Cal. Department of Public Policy survey of journalists, nationwide: During the 2008 election 52% supported Obama, 19% McCain.

9/2009 Sacred Heart U. Polling Institute: 69.9% saw national news media as promoting the Obama presidency while 26.5% disagreed.

8/15/12 Rasmussen Poll: 59% of Likely U.S. Voters believe the media favored Obama, 18% Romney.

Since 1960 how many Republican president candidates has the New York Times endorsed? NONE.

The pro-democrat media has ten times more viewers than pro-Republican Fox News:
5/25/11 huffingtonpost.com: NBC Nightly News averaged 9.469 million viewers, ABC's World News 8.380 million; CBS Evening News 6.204 million; among cable networks, Fox News 2.556 million.

Democrats dominate the "education" system:
http://www.opensecrets.org/orgs/list.php… Top All-Time [political campaign] Donors, 1989-2012:
-The National Education Association (largest government teachers’ union) gave $43,613,263: 71% went to democrats, 5% to Republicans.
-The American Federation of Teachers (the other teachers’ unions) gave $34,698,466: 86% went to democrats, 0% to Republicans.

3/29/05 Washington Post:
-72% of higher education teachers are liberal, 15% conservative
-50% identified themselves as democrat, 11% republican
-At elite schools: 87% are liberal, 13% conservative.

April 2012, The California Association of Scholars (http://www.nas.org/images/documents/A_Cr...tence.pdf) reports:
At the Berkeley campus left-of-center faculty members outnumber their right-of-center colleagues in Political Science by a ratio of 28:2, in English 29:1 and in History 31:1. A number of these professors are openly avowed Marxists.

They dominate government unions:
10/21/10 Wall Street Journal: The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees is the biggest outside spender of the 2010 elections. It gave 0% to Republicans between 1989 and 2012.

With Obama’s upcoming Supreme Court appointments democrats will own the courts.

Ben Franklin foresaw it all: "When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic."

We’re now a democracy.

Thomas Jefferson: "A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine.”

Sounds to me that the man's own bone-headed business decisions are at fault and had nothing to do with "regulations" in fact I didn't even see a regulation mentioned at all.

As for the wedding parties... they will still happen... just not happening at that business. I would think that party buses and rental halls would get the money instead.

Capitalism in motion... life goes on without the stupid.

How about if the owners of the business not be ignorant bigots?
Not possible? The owner's response was the problem, period. They choose to destroy their business due to their religion they want to force on everybody, that's their problem.

His loss.

Why any business would turn away paying clients is beyond me.

Dirty air, water, toxic food all means more jobs is a very hard sell. And only the gullible that are susceptible to corporate lies are buying. A bad business decision by the owner.

Regulations had nothing to do with it. If he chose to eliminate part of his business it was all his decision!

Any time you raise the cost of an employee then it makes the investment of hiring one less attractive.

If I hire a salesperson then his territory needs to be about $900,000 annual sales before I can make a dime.
Pre tax profit of 13% = $128,000 gross profit less payroll taxes, benefits, travel etc... and typically will take the 2nd year to get there so the investment is typically about 3 years to recoup the investment.

When you raise the price of anything it makes that requirement go higher and it is cummlative. The hotels get more expensive, the insurance gets more expensive, cars get more expensive as their costs get more expensive. That number is already sliding closer to $950,000 annual sales.

So, sometimes you just can't afford the loss of cash flow and you don't hire someone. The economy is terrible. If the economy picks up then I could absorb the higher costs but not now. China and India have already taken all the high volume products. We are just making the special designs and have outsurvived our competitors
