Trending Topics in Twitter?

I notice that many people continue trending topics in Twitter. My question is...How can I do it as well?

For example, one of the current major trending topics is "#twitterfilms".

I see that many people have it part of their tweets.

So how do I continue it so that when I do a tweet it is apart of the trending topics list and includes the #twitterfilms link?

It may seem like a dumb question but I really don't know, LOL, I just got into Twitter.

just say '#twitterfilms' in your status
