Can I get any virus from looking at a picture on facebook that the user has copied from a bad site?

If the facebook user found the picture in a site that is not to be trusted, then uploaded it as a picture onto facebook, and then people like me come across it and clicked on it, is it possible to get a virus onto the computer?

Or does facebook get rid of the virus when it gets uploaded?

I'm not talking about clicking on any obvious links to outside facebook, but rather clicking on an image that may be in an album or a profile picture.
