Just got off the pill... How long should we wait before trying to concieve?

Ok, so i got off the pill just the other day after being on it for almost 10 months.. Me and my husband are planning on conceiving soon. My Doctor told me to wait for about 2-3 months before attempting....? Just wondering if it was a bad idea to try earlier? Like after having my first period is it too soon to start after that? Or is it best to have a few to get things regular before.. Also whats the reason to wait? I'm not educated in it so i'm confused why you need to wait? Just curious Thanks!

Women get pregnant all the time on the pill if they forget even a couple, with no harm to their babies !!
Doctors do suggest waiting & the only reason they ever give is to give your cycle time to regulate.
