what is the big deal with twitter?

I have a friend who recently just tweeted a lower graded celebrity (only 1500 followers and the celebrity has been in a few movies), but my friend loves her. He tweeted her a few days ago and he has not received a tweet back and he has checked and saw that she has tweeted other people's tweets but not his. His tweet was just saying how he liked her in a movie that she did. He has been acting depressed because the celebrity has not said anything to him and he only wants her to tweet back. Should my friend expect to receive anything from her? Or should I just tell him to move on because she is not gonna tweet him back.

I mean what is the big deal with twitter and celebrities not tweeting you back.

they're celebrities - they (should) have much better things to do than just trawl through a social media networking site...
Even if they tweet back, it's to keep a small link to their fandom so they are still popular and "pretend" to care... it will make them get richer, in the long term.
So I'd tell your friend not to waste his time chasing after famous people, unless you have met them in person then it's rarely worth it.
