Why do I never get retweets on twitter?

I've got around 140 followers and I never get retweets on my tweets.
For example today I put a really funny tweet on the trends using a hastag, I got no retweets.
2 minutes later somebody puts the exact same tweet and gets 50 retweets and over 100 favourites.
Why is this?

Because your tweets are boring, and everybody is too busy stroking their ePeens to notice.

It really depends on who is following you. The person that got 50 retweets might have a lot more followers than you do, or maybe just more followers that are willing to retweet something. A lot of times the retweet really doesn't have to do with the person who tweeted it....it's more about the tweet's relevance to the person who retweets it. If they like it, find it relevant to their life, or want to share they are more likely to retweet. Maybe tweet "why doesn't anyone retweet me?" and see if that gets you any more retweets than anyone else if it's bothering you that much. In the mean time, try to follow more people to help get people to follow you back.

Try and tweet something that appeals to everyone. When I first started twitter I never got retweets.. It just depends what you are tweeting.. If you generally have little rants on twitter most people retweet because some people see twitter as sort of a banter site or just generally somewhere that you can rant without anyone judging you I wouldn't be too bothered by it.. You will eventually start getting retweets.. I still get retweets and I only have 66 followers you will eventually start getting retweets don't worry about it
