What exactly is tumblr?

I know that it's a social networking site. What exactly do you do on it? How does it work?

It is a reblogging site. You can reblog pictures from others, have your own blog, QnA, explore pictures on it, it sucks up your time when you have nothing better to do. Personnally, I think of it as my own journal.

Tumblr is basically where u go onto other peoples sites and look at their pictures and pick the ones you like to put on your wall so that people all around the world can see what u like. people also follow you and you can follow other people. i dont have it, but all my friends do (y)

It's a blog site. Mostly, people post photos on it. But there is an option for links, videos, photos, quotes, chats, audio, and text. When you go on it, you could follow some blogs and when you "reblog" a photo it's like re-posting it, saying you "like" it. Also, it gives that person's photo/post more "notes" (kinda like comments if you're familiar with facebook, and like retweets if you're familiar with twitter). the more notes it has, the more popular it is and the more likely that blog will gain followers.

followers are like adding people, i'm not sure if you know this or not. just trying to help. (: it's like youtube subscribers-- they follow you to get your posts on their dashboard (homepage/newsfeed/timeline).

usually when someone reblogs something they don't think to make the other person's blog more popular, of course. they reblog because they like the post!

also, there is an option to "like" a post. it's like favoriting a tweet or favoriting a youtube video. this is just to save it for later-- no one else can see your "likes" but you, but you have them there so you can look back on them if you need them. at least, that's what i use likes for.

and, you can customize it and get many different themes. many people create other themes and such. and you can add music.
