Is language a technological advancement?
I have to write an essay on 1984 by George Orwell, and I have to demonstrate the prevalence of 1984 themes in this essay such as constant observation due to technological advancements or write about how close was Orwell's prediction of the future. I was thinking of saying how language is a technology that 1984 uses to dumb down or limit the individuality of its citizens because they create this language, shrinking it each year to limit words that might lead to crime think (thinking of things against the government) What are your thoughts on this?

Language, as we know it today, is NOT a technological advancement.

It could be either a cultural or biological-evolutive advancement, depending on the definition of language.

Newspeak could be classed as a technology, but it's by no means an advancement.

Language is a virus ...

I would class it with social conditions that transport a message, just as fashion does, which also changes, but doesn't "advance". I'm sure the technological progress (relative to 1948) refers to the surveillance and indoctrination media.
