Virus on my laptop will it affect my pictures?
I have a critical virus on my laptop and I was wondering if I plugged a usb stick into it and transfered my pictures onto an different computer, will it carry a virus over to that other computer?

should I risk it or just not try to move the pictures?

It depends on the virus as some can infect USB drives. If you can, upload the pictures to Facebook, PhotoBucket or some other photo sharing site and access them from your other computer (you can set the privacy settings on them to private if you don't want anyone to see them).
