Blogger.com is great blogging site. They are very popular. You should give them a try.

There are quite a few to choose from. Tumblr.com, blogger.com, squarespace.com, wordpress.com, Even Facebook let's use make Notes kind of like a blog.

I would suggest that you buy your own domain. This will give you more control over your content plus the fact that you own the blog name. But if you prefer the free platform, I'd say Wordpress because thats what I'm using.
