If we arent paying to use facebook, then where did the kid who created get his money from. It might seem like a stupid question, but hey theres no harm in asking right.

see all those advertisements on the right side of your page and how they change every time you refresh the page. all those people pay mark a ton of money for them to advertise on facebook.

If enough people go to a web-site there are a lot of ways to make money. Think about it, if say 1,000 people go to a website and there is an advertisement, maybe 100 of those people will click it, and of those 100 maybe 5 will buy something. So people want to advertise.

the more visitors (facebook has a ton), then ads will want their ads there because all these people can see it.
they then pay a lot for ad space.

- find enough stupid investors to pump money into a company that
will never ever see break even.
- blow it up so everyone believes it's the next best thing after sliced
bread. It doesn't really matter if everyone believes that. It's sufficient
if the rest of the investors want a share of it
- go public
- sell your stocks

Facebook, like Youtube and most of the others don't make *real*
money. They get revenue from advertising, premium services or
the likes. But their expenses exceed their revenues by far.
