Why do people think all sociopaths are these crazy murderers?

On multiple occasions ive been called a sociopath and despite never being properly diagnosed i think i most likely am one. Whenever someone finds out about it they freak out like im gonna go on some shooting rampage. There is a difference between being a sociopath and psychopath. Im completely mentally stable and normal just not very social, and tend to be self centered with little regard for others. Perhaps not the best way to make friends, but i don't really care. Im not a dick to people as long as they are nice enough. Im very intelligent and realize that being a complete asshole to decent people wont benefit me in any way. While i don't get over emotional, generally dislike other people, and have questionable morals, im capable of functioning normal in society if i choose to. I dont have a criminal record or want to because it doesnt benefit me. I do lie without guilt or remorse but only if it benefits me. If it makes no difference ill be honest with people. Perhaps too honest even at times. I understand the ethics of right and wrong, i just dont really care that much if it gets in the way of myself. But unlike psychos, i can balance and measure the difference between stealing a candy bar, and murdering an innocent for a candy bar. To the psycho, there is no real difference between the two, while for me, the first is not a big deal while the second is a horrible act of slaughter over something as trivial as chocolate. Gimme feedback. No religious stuff plz.

I agree, and have been called one myself. It's likely sense people are generally complete Idiots and call you a sociopaths wich is by the way "pervasive pattern of disregard for, and violation of, the rights of others that begins in childhood or early adolescence and continues into adulthood." Now, I personally do not regard people as hole valuable, but on a individual bases I find value. This often comes off as socialpathic but the word is "misanthropic" -a dislike or hatrede for the human race. Often other traits like nihilism or pessimism are also mistaken for sociopath but despite these being traits of a sociopath does not make you one.

Long story short, people are dumb and are likely incapable of using proper vocabulary to describe you. In addition people associate sociopath with shooting because of all the hype the media has put on it. So ignore what people say but if you plan on owning a gun and handling it responsibly I recommend you avoid the reputation.

They assume all sociopaths are crazy murderers because that is all they are ever depicted as in the media. Most of the time when you hear someone talk about a sociopath, they are talking about some news story about someone that killed someone or attempted to; it's because of this that sociopaths are equal to murderers in the minds of many, many people.

Really, it is all about that person's environment and their personal knowledge. I for one relate to pretty much everything you said, so I can easily see the stability in your mind, whereas someone like my youngest aunt or my mother would think there is something wrong with you.

This is not a christian answer, but I am a christian, but, i figure people get what they ask for, generally. I do not really like people, I do not care what they think or what they think about me. I think most people are stupid and have less common sense than a brick, i am not a violent person, even though i believe sometimes violence is the only answer, and is needed. I think we are over protective as individuals and as a government, that it causes our childern to be incapable to respond, of react responsible, and be stupid of dangers. Most people are ready made victoms, will to sit on their hands will letting anyone take advantage of them, crying for someone to protect them. And I think they are funny and stupid. But, i have never killed and maimed anyone, let stupidity to it own devices. I do not lie to people I am usually brutially honest. LOL
