How to make friends on twitter?

I want to make one because I like the idea of just making short posts about what I'm doing/thinking about. None of my friends really use twitter so I don't really have anyone to start with. And I don't have a very interesting life, so I'm wondering if I'm just out of luck with that site. Is there any easy way to make friends with it? Also since I didn't make an account yet, are there any tips you have for using twitter?

Put your favorite quotes. but most of all HASHTAGS. use hashtags, look at the trending topics and join in. respond to people that are posting in the trending topics. retweet popular tweets and that person just might follow you back. hashtags are the # symbol that creates a link....resulting in trending topics. For example if you like One Direction and their new album just came out maybe tweet your opinion on a track or any thought you might have... hashtag #OneDirection #(albumname) and you might get responders, retweets, and more followers.
