Well, I have a smart phone BUT I kinda do agree with you. It scares how much these things know about me...meaning like how people can see what sites we have been on etc. Never the less they are very useful phones and really they are no different from most technology today.

Although I've heard a few conspiracies, not sure if they are true but, banks, major corporations and governments want to keep an eye on all of us, so that they can stay in control and prevent people from exposing their corruption. There are Radio Frequency Identification devices used in new phones locating us. Many websites are used as spying tools monitoring the publics activity. Sometimes you have to wonder "Why do they need this information?", seems like they are just monitoring you 24/7. They employ many tactics to keep us ignorant, using tv to keep us distracted. Bankers fund wars, launder drug money, keep poverty affecting africa, yet people are too blind too see this, anyone that tries to expose any information to the people gets hunted down, just take a look a Bradley Manning.

All technology can only do what you ALLOW it to do.

Yes, smart-phones' come with a lot of garbage that (by default) erodes your privacy, however you DON'T HAVE TO HAVE ONE .. and if your do, you can always learn how to disable the worse of the 'spy' stuff (like 3rd party cookies on PC's)

... as to your concern rte: ".. our passwords" that's irrelevant compared to the fact that MOST people have given the mobile phone company free access to their bank accounts to take as much as they like every month .. (and the only password it can learn is one that YOU type in ..)

But, again, there is nothing to stop you sticking to PAYG (no ID needed & you can make a point of buying 'top up' vouchers with cash)... and if you must use your phone for Twitter or whatever, there's nothing to stop you setting up a new account for every phone / every computer ..
