How to get more people to paid social events?

I'm trying to get more people to a social events, I have advertised on some event websites, facebook and local classified ads. The type of events are dinners, speed-dating etc.
Any help would be appreciated.

You pay for an Ad in local newspapers. Ad should be a minimum of 3" by 5"

You must promote the event good enough. Always ensure that you speak to people about what they going to get out of it......., People are more concerned and interested in what it is for them. If you win that point, am sure you will get very good nos. Good Luck
