BSOD - Dell Inspiron Laptop Problems?
I have a Dell Inspiron laptop M5040. A couple weeks ago my brother was playing League of Legends on my laptop and all of a sudden the Blue Screen of Death came on and shut down my computer. We tried turning it on but it failed. A couple hours later, we were able to come to a screen that recommended we recover so we did that.

That worked for only an hour and again, my laptop shut off. We turned it on again and we came onto a black screen that said, "Error Loading Operating System."

So my brother and I ran a diagnostics and the code 2000-0142 came on meaning the hard drive is either broken or unable to function properly.

So I took my laptop to customer service at Best Buy and the guy simply recommended me to use the recovery disk. I went home and put the recovery disk in but at the last step of the recovery it said something about my laptop not having enough memory space or something.

Please help. Sad I recently just bought this laptop in the beginning of last year and it was really expensive. I am only 17 and know nothing about computers/laptops so please dumb it down for me. Is it really impossible to fix my laptop???

Lucus,

Sorry to hear about your computer issues. Hopefully, the information below will help you resolve this issue. If not, you will need to replace the hard drive in your computer. This error represents a hard drive failure.Try the steps below to see if they will fix the hard drive.
Insert your Windows OS disk into your cd/dvd drive
As the machine boots up - it should have an option to hit F2 or F12.Hit the F12 key
This will give you the option of where to boot your machine from.Select boot from CD/DVD drive

Windows will load some files and gave me an option to either install windows or repair.

Select Repair and It may ask for the admin password -- type it in.

It will then bring you to a command prompt :

Type in CHKDSK
or
Type in CHKDSK/R

Hit the ENTER key

Once your machine has finished and repairing the hard drive, type EXIT and press ENTER to restart your laptop.

You can also try another command if the above steps to dot work. If the one below does not resolve the problem you can then replace the hard drive.

After the command prompt - type in FIXBOOT

If you need to purchase a hard drive you can go online or you can contact Dell Spare Parts Department at the link below.
