What does blocking someone on twitter do?

Can the blocked person find my profile by searching me on his account? Can he read my tweets on his account? I recently blocked someone and when I go to his profile, it says no tweets. Would this be the same for him on my account?

If someone blocks you, log out to see their tweets or use the search function to find their tweets. And obviously if you've blocked someone they can see your tweets by logging out themselves or searching.
Blocking simply removes someone from your follower list and prevent them from contacting you (via their usual account, they can use another one of course) by direct message or @ mention - however they can still post @ mentions and others can view them (and you can see them if you search for them).
Blocking someone offers no privacy for your tweets which are still available in the public timeline and to the person you've blocked who can search for them. Privacy is only possible if you lock your account.
Blocking someone just means you can avoid hearing from them if you want to - they can still see everything you write, if they want to know how to.
There's a Q&A at the end, based on the keywords and questions people type into Google before they find this post (I've no way of knowing who it is that is searching for these things by the way).
