Lowering resolution on my laptop?
I have a dell latitude d630 and the recommended resolution is 1200x800 which i never complained about. While playing world of warcraft there is definitely a difference when i lowered the resolution from 1200x800 to 1024x768 in game. Sure it doesn't look as good but honestly it ran a lot better and i got more fps.

So my question is if i lower the resolution on my computer and not just for world of warcraft would there be any difference in speed? Would not using the recommended resolution on my laptop cause any problems?

By the way the d630 i have can just about play WoW i'm just looking to maximize fps in game and just speed up the laptop up in general.

Hi,

I dont think so there will be any change, if you lower the resolution for your game. But please keep it only for game usage and for other computing skills, go for normal 1200x800 pixel resolution.

actually, lowering you laptop's resolution can help it work faster. but the only problem with that is the slightly stretched image on the gameplay. aside from that, there will be no performance issues.

Lowering Your Resolution will only benefit getting higher fps in gaming it will not in any way improve performance for regular tasks on your laptop!

if you want to speed up the laptop in general then i would suggest upgrading RAM and Processor to a faster one if possible, if not then the 2 best ways are RAM & switching to a SSD instead of a regular HDD!!!

As well as you need to do maintenance on your HDD, clean up spyware/adware/registry errors/disk cleanup/defragment hard drive!!!

i use the following programs:

Virus Removal - AVG Antivirus 2013

Hard Drive Defragment/Cleanup/Registry errors - Tweaknow Regcleaner 2012

these programs are free and can be obtained from Download.com/Cnet.com

Hello,
My name is Krishna and I work for the Social Media and Community Team at Dell.
Turning down your screen resolution definitely improves performance. Less pixels = Less work for your GPU. In fact, a lot of mid-range gaming laptops have screen resolutions that are intentionally capped so games run at a respectable level.

And No, reducing the resolution won't damage a modern computer screen in any way. Hope this information helps.
