Social worker wanting to set up a gun buyback but school I work with is ultra conservative/republican-advice?
I'm a social worker and I work through a community mental health agency at a few local schools but they tend to be very pro guns and I fear would see this as "gun control" and not as violence prevention. I am not from the area and I am clearly "from the big city" to many.

However, I am willing to go forward even if I am unpopular. In NO way do I want to involve, associate, or put the schools in this due to the scrutiny it could cause but I don't want to Crete tensions amongst administration and I as I will get some media attention and relatively being a school faculty member, I know they could be offset by such.

How would you approach this topic. Would you be upfront about your outside work to your schools you serve since they could likely get complaint/calls of differing views or would you let things develop as they may? Would you talk to your employer about this outside plan? I don't want to alienate myself or anyone else. (These 3 schools are small rural schools outside of a bigger/more urban area).

You say you want "violence prevention" but how much violence is there in that area. Most rural people are accustom to guns. Most city people not so. Are you trying to take guns for your piece of mind not theirs?? If there is a low level of violence then leave well enough alone!

Isn't "violence prevention" just (an excuse) another way of saying "gun control"?
