Why doesn't facebook work on my iPod touch generation 1?

(I can't get the app because it won't update to 4.0) so whenever I open it in safari, it fits to the screen and tells me to get the app, and I ignore it 'cuz I can't, but then when I click the notifications button (or anything, for thar matter,) it autimattically goes to the homescreen! It's almost like I pressed the home button but I didn't! And it happens EVERY SINGLE TIME!! And then when I try to use the version that doesn't fit to the screen like the app, alot of things are missing or don't work. There's no 'comment' button and pressing enter doesn't send, you can't tag people in posts, the whole thing takes forever to load and crashes frequently! Someone SOS please!!!!!
