Say i visited Canada and got in fine but decided i like it so much i just get an apartment and stay, legal?
Just curious, I have been thinking about moving there and was just curious say I visited as a tourist or whatever and got in and everything, but like it so i just get a place and a job etc and just stay, is that legal? how would they even know? could i get arrested or anything for whatever reason? Ideally I would like to live in ontario Niagra Falls area
How long can i stay with a tourist visa?

I heard they have like temporary residence permits too?

I would like to stay there for a couple years, is that possible with a tourist visa if i just keep renewing it?

whats the simplest legal way to stay in canada for a couple years?

No it's not legall if u r ever arrested they would find out if u ever got pulled over or arrested. It u did get caught u would not allow to enter Canada again. And if u tried to leave the country and then come back u would also bedecked entry. U r not alou to work on a tourist visa. U can get a place tho in Canada just not over stay ur tourist visa. Contact the conadian government on how u can become a Canadian citizen if u want to live in Canada.

The problem starts the second you decide you're going to stay here or get an apartment.
Unless you are independently wealthy how would you pay for it?

You can't get a legit job in Canada, you don't have a Social Insurance Number.
No company can hire you without one, since it's plugged into Revenue Canada, EI, healthcare, etc.
True you might find an under-the-table job, they pay minimal though... and the second you get pulled over by the police, say they're looking for someone wearing the same colour jacket as you, or you get hurt and need medical help - busted. You got no legit ID or reason to be in Canada so deported you'd be, with a red flag by your name disallowing you from being in Canada in the future, even legally.

That's the scenario. [things work different in Canada, extremely hard to be an illegal alien]

As a tourist you can be in Canada for six months in a calendar year.
If you are from the USA you don't require a visa; here's the list of countries who's citizens do require a visa to enter Canada:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/visas.asp

Temporary esidence permits...
"If you wish to extend your status date, you should apply 30 days before your status expires in order to do any of the following:
- extend your visitor, student or work status
- change the type of permit you hold (for example, from a student to a work permit)
- change a condition of your permit (for example, if you are studying and you want to change schools, or if you are working and your want to change jobs)"
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/extend-stay.asp

Simplest way to stay and possible immigrate is being a foreign student.
"More than 130 thousand foreign students come to Canada every year. We want them."

It is illegal, and also very difficult.

You need a bank account, and to get one, you need a SIN number. This is a bit like the US SSN. Because banks pay interest on accounts, which is taxable, the bank informs the Feds that you exist. No bank account, means it would be very hard to rent a place.

Same for a job. No SIN means no job - period. Canadians do not hire illegals as many companies in the US do.

You can stay in Canada for 6 months, but, that's it. The ONLY way to stay longer, legally, is to go through the same, long, and expensive process that everyone else does. And, they are so backlogged at the moment, they stopped taking applications last July, and won't begin again utnil at least May this year.

Aces_wil, the answer is no. tourist visa is 90 days. Also you heard wrong on the temporary residents permit.

You need a sin to gain employment. Be advised what your suggesting is totally illegal. We have officers attached with the RCMP, but are strictly Immigration surveillance, and we do raids on establishments. should we find a non resident employed, the employer is in deep trouble, you are arrested taken to a detention center.

There are a number of things that can happen to you. Your held to appear before an Immigration Judge, or your put on the next plane back.

If your from the States, you can be escorted to the Canadian/US Boarder, and handed over to the US Customs and Boarder Control into their custody, and can be further charged under US Federal law, under a by lateral agreement between the two countries.

You would have no idea how many such cases we detect, also decent citizens report to us.
