What is the point on writing on someones Facebook wall when you can just message them?

As far as I know you can do everything through a Facebook message when wanting to contact someone, which seems to render the Facebook wall pointless. (I don't particularly like seeing peoples conversations that have nothing to do with me or anything that I care about being posted online and clogging up my homepage) The only time the Facebook wall may become useful is if you want other people to see it. but then why not make a post then tag them in it. It seems like the fb wall is getting more and more pointless? The only time I ever use it is for this reason. I now even send happy birthday messages through chat also.

Maybe you want to show your friend a picture that everyone else would want to see. People do this with family pictures all of the time and I think it is appropriate.

Ppl on FB are attention whores. They love the publicity and eat it up. Ok so people would post things on other pols wall say a photo of them or a status update of what they were doing. Next thing u know they get like 30 likes + 15 comments in the span of 10 mins (of course these were popular people . Fewer likes usually obtained for less popular people). They think they are so cool and everybody loves them. They are sellIng themselves basically like a billboard AD on Facebook.

Facebook's Help Center definitely states that the site provides no ability to track who views your profile. This also includes portions of a profile, such as photos or notes. People also aren't able to see how many times their profile has been viewed. Rumors to the contrary are a result of either wishful thinking or malicious apps designed to collect personal information.
