It can maybe replace a Mac if you never use CD's, USB devices. Technically an iPad is a computer, but apple likes to put restrictions on what you can and can't do with there software. that's why people insist on jail-breaking them. So yes there are many hardware and software restrictions. Personally I would rather have a laptop that can do it all. They run at about the same price but iPads are sure pretty to look at!

Generally android or ipads can do what you mention and a lot of the programs come pre loaded on most tablets , i would recommend the dual core processor and 1 gb of ram , 512mb ram is okay, after having a tablet for 4 months , can play games with out lagging , load music , video , plenty of different apps, photos { get fishbowl don't know if it's ipad compatible} and the battery life up to 8 hours or more , slim, easy to carry around, laptops can have more storage and ram well above 64 gb and a better graphic card but look what you pay for to get it to a gaming laptop, so the answer is yes but at this point can't really replace a laptop or a pc

They cannot do everything a computer can.

But they can do just about everything normal people use a computer for anymore.

They are primarily easy to use devices for content consumption that are very portable and have long lasting batteries.
