What are the best ways to popularize a blog post?

I am not looking for black hat SEO methods.
Do the major search engine frown upon submitting your post to smaller directories/search engines? Where are the best places to submit one's new blogs? Are there any social media retweet clubs?

Another organic way of popularizing not only one post, but your entire blog is to interact with like-minded blogs by leaving your link as a login (not as HTML in the comment). Developing a community that will support your work is a very, very strong approach. It's what Seth Godin calls the tribe of 100.

You should really avoid black hat seo techniques like buying back links (they obviously bought links) it can get you in all kinds of trouble with google. You should really read up on everything related to seo instead of trusting people who are using sketchy techniques and could get you in trouble.
