The advent of social media on the internet, and the ownership of news outlets by mega corporations have brought dramatic changes in the electoral and governing processes. How did the atomization and conglomeration of the news media impactthe political process.

As news companies get bigger by buying out competitors their influence on the public becomes greater due to their monopoly of what they report and how they phrase it. So therefore politicians snuggle up to the news companies in order to try and get good coverage and so the political process is influenced by those news companies more than it is by the general public.
