My apple i-pod froze its a white screen and it wont even let me turn it off?

i was on facebook looking at my messages and my ipod screen turned half way sideways and then my screen turned white and it wont do anything i tried turning it off nothing its been like this for the past hour help does anyone know what I can do or if it will still be okay
Its one of those new flat ones I don't think i can take the battery out I don't see where i would

take the battery out and let it reset it should be OK.

Try a hard reset. Hold down the power button and the home button for 5-10 seconds, release the home button but keep pressing the power button until it restarts. It should resolve the issue.
