How do I drive traffic to my site?
I haven't even set it up yet. How do I add keywords that will get me onto search engines? And how do I get into the top 10? I'm just very new to all this. I'm setting up a site with some pay-per-click ads, as well as products that are being sold. I'm looking for some tips to get my website "known". How do I get my website out there?

If your site is not a spam looking MFA (Made for Adsense) site your best bet to get traffic w/out orgainic (free google search) traffic is social bookmarking sites.

The best social networking for getting traffic (could reach tens of thousands per day if your site is good" are:

1. Reddit.com
2. Digg.com
3. Stumbleupon.com

Others depend on what your site is about... Make sure you try to make friends on your social bookmarking sites before you bookmark it will increase your chances of getting a traffic explosion.

First of all, it usually costs a small fortune to get into the top 10; be careful and try not to spend to much money untily u get a feel for how the traffic you receive for your efforst (and money) convert.

For keywords, I would suggest checking out the google keyword tool and putting in some broad / generic keywords (example: pet supplies). Then the tool will spit out TONS of highly relevant keywords that you can use, and it even gives search engine competition statistics, etc.

To find the tool, just do a search on google for "google keyword tool" and it will pop up.

submit articles and blogs.
Bookmarking. Bookmark your website.
To decide which keywords should be used on your web site, you can start by asking yourself the most simple, but relevant, question. Who needs the services that you offer? It’s an elementary question, but one that will be most important in searching for the correct keywords and having the best search engine optimization. If you’re marketing specialty soaps, you will want to use words such as soap (which really is too broad a term), specialty soap, bath products, luxury bath products, or other such words that come to mind when you think of your product. It’s also important to remember to use words that real people use when talking about your products.

You could use some popular keywords to drive traffic to your site. These keywords will be shown on the search engine results, at the same time will probably make the user keen to enter your site. And you must also update you site frequently because search engine loves new stuffs.

Based on the phrasing of your question, I'm guessing that you haven't been at this for very long.

Getting into the top 10 for a keyword depends on a number of variables--the keyword, competition for the keyword, that nature of the existing top 10, etc.

Generally speaking, it's all about good on-site SEO combined with smart pursuit of inbound links to your site.

It is possible, with the right effort and plan, but it isn't a simple matter of adding "keywords" to your site. They need to be the right ones and used properly.
