In a little bit of an Apple dilemma- can anyone help?

So I have an iPhone and so does my dad, but we're under different Apple I.D.s, and when I buy music, I buy it on his I.D., and I just put my iPhone on the computer where I download it and put the music on my phone. I had to do that transfer purchases thing the first time I put it on the computer, and I usually can just buy music on his I.D. and put it on my phone. But I've noticed that this music doesn't show up on my Apple I.D.'s purchased list. First of all, is this the best way to what purchases between Apple I.D.s? Second of all, is this legal? And third of all, is there a way to make these songs official purchases under my Apple I.D. as well as my dad's? Oh and the last time I downloaded, a couple of the songs went on under Unknown Album, and I'm not sure why. For example, the song "The Way It Is" by Bruce Hornsby and The Range went on as The Way It Is by Bruce Hornsby under unknown album. And the album art is the same as the actual album, but it's just under the name unknown album. Any help out there? Thanks!
