What is the principle and responsibility of the media?
Is it that the media’s responsibility is to inform and educate with balance, equity and decorum?
Does freedom of the Press mean the unsavory use of personal prejudice to taint the information in order to promote an egocentric agenda?
Is it a wanton abuse of privileges and an act of criminality, for bigoted individuals to use the media as a weapon to contravene the inalienable rights of another?

Should the media be used as a weapon of oppression and persecution against Political, Religious, Financial, Ethnic, Intellectual and Social Opponents?

The purpose of the media has always been the same--to inform the public as accurate and without bias.It should NOT be used as a weapon or for political gain. True, a newspaper can express opinion, but only on the editorial page.I am sorry to say that some of the media to do live up to these basic principles. I'm from the old school of journalism and I can readily see what you are saying. It's sad.

Are you new here?
The responsibility of the media is to let the public know whatever our government wants us to know. I hope you thanked your mom for the new dictionary.

The media should report things that are not associated with movie stars and athletes. They do that to "sell" papers and in my estimation; it is bigoted reporting. It seems that they beat down a current event to death until the next story blasts it off the front pages and air waves. It's like coasting going down hill and not stopping the insanity of minimal Journalism. Where is the independent thinking Journalist and how hard are they really working or reading and responding to E-mails?
I believe that they should also focus on good news and bad news and current news and do some real "daily" Journalism. Using media reporting for a political gain or to guide people to a particular view is what we (the public) are getting. Editorials on the other hand tend to be in the direction of the media "they are working for." The Media should allow "freedom of reporting" by it's reporters, but big news business, won't be happy or let it happen and sometimes fire the outspoken Journalist.
Personally, I don't want worthless news like; oil is $100. a barrel. What can be done about it anyway? Who cares if Brittany is in our out? What does she have to do with driving safely or vitamins and health? Talk about families that love everyone in their family and have respect for their neighbors and report on the ones that don't; report on why people, drink, do other drugs, runaway, fight, kill and steal.
That is the principle and responsibility of the media and that is why I spend a bunch of time being a wanna-be Journalist on Yahoo Answers!
