What are possible 'motives' of the social network movement?
Does anyone else find the sudden emergence of social media pretty suspicious? Why was social media able to become so popular almost overnight? Right Wing-Sandmen doing work at night?

Is this another one of those conspiracy theories out there? Social media is popular simply because it's all about people - you and I... and everybody else. We can now communicate better, in real-time, no matter where we are in the world and it gave people some sort of liberating experience never before achieved. I don't find the emergence of social media suspicious. What I find disturbing is who are using our social networking profiles and for what... It's like having a big brother on the Web. I guess, privacy is merely perception these days.

The motive is people like to gossip. And social networks make gossiping a lot easier.
