Internet Questions. Can Anyone Help Me Please?
Why do authorities bother with hard drives? Why don't they just get your IP address & contact your ISP for information? Even if you're using a proxy server, it still routes through your ISP, correct? Is it because data you save on your hard drive isn't "recorded" by your ISP?

For example: If I have a picture on a flash drive, it'd be pretty difficult to say "your picture was uploaded on this date by this computer at this time, using this IP through this ISP."

^Okay, perhaps you can get more information than I think. How much?

Photos: What happens to your photos or any data from old facebook accounts? Does facebook/imgur/photobucket/etc have designated databases just for this? "Nothing can be deleted off the internet." Well where does it all go?

When Facebook was started, how'd they do it? I'm struggling to wrap my mind around a database that can support an infinite amount of data ...so what happens when it fills up? Do they just refresh it? Well, where does the old data go? Into another database?

At any point in time, can they "erase" this data?

Last question: Do you know what a 9ganger is? I'm not sure if that is correct, but they take pictures & ...well do whatever they please. I'm a victim & it's driving me crazy. I've contacted the administor/moderators of that forum & they won't respond. I'm not even a member!

Is there anything I can do?

I don't care if it takes me 10 years, I'm going to learn how the web works & hack my way into the forum & get my picture off. Gosh.

You wrote a book there...

The saying "Nothing can be deleted off the internet" mostly refers to the fact that a good deal of things that get posted online get archives one way or another whether that is by a web crawler or by someone who just decided to save said picture and/or repost it somewhere else. I imagine Facebook has got multiple "massive databases" but there isn't per say one database for the entire internet.

Not sure I can answer the rest but I think a "9ganger" might actually be a 9gagger. Referring to a user of the site 9gag.com...

Hard drives are just further evidence on what the authorities may be looking for. They will have already gotten a court order to get your IP=Internal from your ISP. Any uploading or downloading is recorded down to the last k. Your ISP is required to keep a record for a certain number of years on each of it's clients
Deleted data can be retrieved from a hard drive, unless someone knows how to completely erase all free space. That's where anything deleted goes.
I assure you, there are data bases out there, Google for one, that are HUGE and can carry data for many many years to come
Like Facebook. That really does not take up much space at all like you think. For instance, I have a wordpress blog and have had it for three years. Wordpress gives you 3 gig's for free. In the three years, I have only used 0.3 gig's.

" Do you know what a 9ganger is? "
I think you mean " 9gagger"
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=9gaggers
" A 9gagger is someone who creates and/or promotes and/or enjoys such websites. Colloquial usage refers to anyone who is slimy, dishonest, disgusting, or a pedophile."

" I'm going to learn how the web works & hack my way into the forum & get my picture off. Gosh."
I under stand, but 2 wrongs do not make it right. Be the better person on this and let it go. Put it behind you. They will get their just punishment one of these days, !!!!
