Apple Thunderbolt display audio?

I purchased a Macbook Pro and the Apple thunderbolt display around Christmas. At first when I hooked the laptop up to the display the audio played through the monitor's speakers with no problem. Now when I hook it up however the audio plays from the laptop's speakers which are much quieter. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Is there anywhere to set up preferences or anything to get the audio to go back to the Thunderbolt display?
