Why are people acting like YouTube comments are Twitter posts?

It's become a trend. It's an easy way to note that you're responding to someone.

The @ symbol is just a way of addressing a user or a user's comment/answer/question. It's a common thing to use on most social networking sites. It's not just a twitter thing.

It always comes up in replies by default on the video page now. It wasn't invented by Twitter. Maybe because '@' means 'at'?
