Cant re-activate yahoo account?

So i was recently handed down an account for a group on my campus. the account unfortunately has not been used for a long time and has been deactivated however to recover the passwords from multiple social media platforms i need to have the passwords sent to this account. i tried to reactivate the account however every time i try to enter the code in the box it says there is a problem with your account and goes back to that page. i know its highly unlikely that i can get the emails that were previously sent to the account however all i need is to be able to receive emails so i can get the passwords from other websites.what can i do?

click on the link then answer some questions
On the first drop down click on 'Yahoo Mail'
on the second click on 'Password and Sign in'
On the third click on 'forgot password/sign in'
If a fourth appears give a brief explanation.

If the account was not used for a long time, you cannot get it back by asking for a new password as suggested above. Please check this link with instructions on what to do:
